The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
