Seamer Gus Atkinson Adds to England's Injury Worries.
'Major setback' for England as Atkinson leaves the field due to a hamstring issue.
Gus Atkinson increased the injury concerns plaguing England when he left the ground during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.
Atkinson experienced discomfort in his left hamstring immediately following a delivery that he bowled during the morning session.
Team management reported the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and required time off the field to undergo evaluation "in the coming hours".
The concluding match of the tour in Sydney gets underway at the end of the week.
The visitors have previously lost strike bowlers one seamer due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer because of a side injury during this series.
A replacement bowler was called up to provide backup.
The seamer had a tough time early in the series, managing only three wickets.
He was omitted from the previous Test, then recalled for the Melbourne Test in the playing XI.
Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, taking two wickets in Australia's first innings, then making 28 as a batsman being one of only three England players who passed ten runs.
Following a brief spell at the end of day one, he came back for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.
However, on the final ball of his spell, he bowled a slower ball to the batsman and suddenly grabbed at his leg.
Atkinson was brought back for the Boxing Day Test following his omission the previous Test.
