Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His family, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”

It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the hospital, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” the coach said. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. And again, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD shared security footage Monday of a man sought in the attack on the player. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and police mentioned it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims were reported.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday about halfway between the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, 29, was taken to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “a great deal” since learning of the incident. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “And I’m thinking about his wife, worrying about his newborn and my priority is his well-being. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd did not participate this season, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was projected as an important component of the team’s updated special teams under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during preseason drills on 2 August and was carted from the field.

Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of Texas University in 2019. He later played for Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with New York in the spring.
