Brian Eno Encourages Public Help to Propel Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Christmas No 1.
A charity drive is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The effort seeks to deliver assistance to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Chance for Solidarity and an "Surprise Victory"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be fantastic if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Powerful Theme of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the version of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.
“The song holds a profound significance for many individuals,” Barghouti explained. “It’s basically saying that I would prefer a dignified death than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we seek to lead a dignified life that we merit as a people.”
Recording Origins and Star-Studded Lineup
The single was laid down in the wake of a solidarity show held in the autumn. First conceived to be performed and recorded live, the performance was cut from the show due to scheduling overruns.
The impressive roster of performers contributing to Lullaby features a group of well-known figures from the music world. All were part of the benefit event, which managed to collect a significant sum for humanitarian aid.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was crafted by a group of music creators. The track showcases a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with contemporary English verses.
The organizers behind the campaign have clarified that their goal is to collect the highest amount for a specific fund. These resources will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.
“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a spokesperson commented. “We’ll go for whatever we can get. Naturally, the greater the amount, the better. Every penny goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the area was noted for its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of infrastructure described as destroyed or damaged.
“Against that backdrop, a few million won't make a massive dent. But I think what truly matters is above all raising awareness for this issue and proving that another narrative exists.”
The track is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a video of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from the 19th of December.
