Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Defeat

Arne Slot conceded that it's natural for doubts to be raised about his position following another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, representing the club's worst streak since being demoted in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from management,” Slot stated.

“It's important to change things and earn three points of course but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that doubts arise.”

He noted, “I accept my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we turned it around.”

Talks with The Board

When asked to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:

“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they back me.”

He added, “During our regular discussions I perceive the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so we'll see.”

Familiar Problems and Player Reaction

The manager expressed regret over known shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.

“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones said.

“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”

He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a phase like this with performances this poor.”

He finished, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the world.”

“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
